All Star Weekend Dunk Contest 2011……HUH?
Well, for all of us that follows the NBA…..All Star Weekend is approaching us in February. I for one am very excited because we get to see Amar’e in an eastern conference jersey. Can you imagine all the alley’s this guy is going to grab from Lebron or Rondo?? sheesh!
On the other hand The Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, which is usually the biggest draw to All Star Weekend, has been very dismal in past years. I literally was dosing off watching Gerald Wallace Dunk with no enthusiasm, and Shannon Brown disappointing every person watching (I will NEVER FORGIVE YOU SHANNON BROWN!!!). It was SO bad, Three time winner Nate Robinson removed himself from defending his championship the following year.
Well I got a little Giddy in my computer chair, when I read somewhere that this years participants in the Dunk Contest would be Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, Rudy Gay, and LeBron James. I thought to myself, “HOLY CRAP! Blake Vs LeBron? Rudy Gay Vs Derrick Rose?” this would be the best Dunk Contest since Superman Dwight Vs Krypto-Nate. Or when Vince brought the house down with his superb showing of dunks. Hell, It might even be as good as Jordan vs Dominique (maybe i’m pushing it a little..)
Well…FALSE ALARM! Those rumors were immediately shot down after I read an article Announcing that this years participants would be Blake Griffin, Javale McGee, Serge Ibaka, and….Brandon Jennings?? I’m Not mad that Javale McGee is in the Dunk Contest, because that guy is a 7 foot, high jumping, athletic monster. Brandon Jennings and Serge Ibaka on the other hand is a little puzzling. Serge isn’t known for flashy dunks, and Brandon Jennings doesn’t even look like he has the springs to dunk. To top it all off, Jennings hasn’t even come back from a foot injury. Although he should be healthy by All Star Weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised if he re-aggravates his injury while he tries to dunk.
I’m pretty sure the NBA could’ve called JR Smith or Russell Westbrook over Jennings to dunk again, despite the fact hes been in it numerous of times. Heck, the NBA could’ve gave Shannon Brown another chance. Hopefully, this years Dunk Contest doesn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to see Griffin Vs McGee.
(I got my cash on Blake Dominating because he’s going to be the hometown hero & he’s a dunking machine)
